Dashboard Lights You Shouldn’t Ignore
Your car’s lights are part of its warning system. Their purpose is to warn the driver about possible problems with the vehicle. However, many motorists do not understand these basic dashboard symbols. For example, they can prompt you to check the engine, battery, or coolant. There are also indicators for low fuel level, washer fluid and tire pressure. Understanding these symbols on your dashboard can help you stay safe on the road and keep your car running smoothly.
The vehicle indicators are coded by color. For example, red lights are urgent and mean your car needs immediate attention, while amber lights mean your car will need repairs soon. Blue and green lights indicate that a particular system is on or running. The lights can be safety warnings, such as a reminder to fasten your seat belt. These can also be mechanical alarms, for example, in connection with the braking system and battery indicators.
Other common warning lights in cars are the traction control alarm, airbag alarm and fog light indicator. Most headlights are universal for all vehicles. This makes the symbols easily recognizable no matter what car you drive. However, some apply specifically to hybrid and electric vehicles.
